Current pricing of non motorized RV.s

Is it my imagination or am I seeing no significant drop in current prices for non motorized RV's? I am currently doing some research on pricing for used and new fifth wheel and regular travel trailers for my sister. I am finding no significant drop in those prices over the last 3 months.
Could it be that people are economizing thier lifestyles and moving into various kinds of trailers instead of conventional brick and stick construction houses?? This is October 2008. We will see if the curent major financial crisis will decrease or increase pricing.:@

RE: Going to make a deal tonite on the Class C

Go to "SEARCH" on this forum and then punch up "First Time Buyer---". You will get all the good advice you can apply and avoid buying a lemon and overpayment. Some very important things: Inspect and Inspect and Inspect all details. If you do not understand anything whatsoever, get answers from the seller. If you don't like the answer, do not buy it. Avove all, do not let the seller know that you are emotionally attached to this particular coach and do not be afraid to offer 40& less than the so called MSRP. Stick to your guns on your offer and move a little but not much. Yu will be surprised what you can settle for in todays market.:C

RE: Cost of adding a transmission cooler & gage

5 years ago, I had this done after careful shopping around. Any self respecting independent Auto/Truck service place can do this. Stay away from dealers. Even with a warranty issue yu can find repurtable independent service places who after OK from the warranty company will do this type of work and do it better and cheaper than most dealers. I Paid just over $1K but in todays market you can probalbly figure closer to $1.75 K mostly due to the price inclease in materials and labor. Here in California it is difficult to find any service place that will charge you less than $100-/Hour.

RE: question on trade-in

98% of the time it is a better idea to sell your old rig on the private market first before you buy a new unit. The odds are that you will get more $$ for your old unit that way rather than taking a beating by the dealer on a trade in. This goes for any kind of vehicle or trailer as well as cars.

RE: Dodge Flash

It loks to me like you are being milked for $$. You need to take it to a Cummins Service Center and get away from the dealer.

RE: Southern California freeways

I have driven the So. Cal. freeways for over 30 years and observed a systematic deterioration and neglect of them by Caltrans and the politicians. Some of these are part of an interstate system and are Federal responsibilty. Just like many of our bridges all over the country, I am afraid we blew billions of dollars on non essential programs like NASA. Those dollars could have been used to keep our transportation infrastructure in top shape. I now live in No. Cal and thankfully do not get agrivated by the So. Cal freeways anymore. I think all RV.rs need to lobby our politicians to turn things around on the quality of our freeways.

RE: fridge won't light the gas

How old is your frig? Have you parked unlevel and run your frig lately? You say you have propane, but is it actually coming out of the orofice that feeds the pilot light? If not, you need to use a fine needle and clean the orofice. This is a quite common problem as spiders like the odor of propane and build thier nests in the orofice.

RE: excessive heat in cab

There are three things you can do. One is to glue reflective insulation material ( RTV Sealant or equivalent material will work for glue) on the underside of your engine cover and under the floor bord and 2 get some exhaust pipe wrap that keeps the heat from radiating, then wrap that material over the exhaist maniforld and the from end of your exhaust system. Also, you might want to fabricate a sinple sheet metal baffle to fasten it under your floor board and engine cover to seal off much of the heat that radiates from the exhaust manifod. One more thing: be sure and check the exhaust manifold where it joins the engine block for exhaust leakage. If your manifold leaks it is time to resurface the joining areas and re attach the manifold with a proper seal. ( You might have a cracked maniforld.) Your nearest friendly Automotive supply should be able to help you with these materials. The manifold work should be done by a competant repair shop.

Analog to digital TV conversion

Like so many other RV'rs out there I have two TV's hooked to the same Wineguard antenna. Do I need a conversion box for both TV's or will one box be adequate for future non satelite reception??

RE: What sealant to use on roof?

Try PROFLEX. You can get it at Camping World. I have used it for over 10 years and find it a fantastic product. It will not shrink and peel like silicon based products.

RE: need tire help

If your flat tire was one of the "duallies" in the back you need to be very careful about buying a wider replacement tire. The reason: Even a small loss in tire pressure can cause the tires to rub against each other, thus causing extreme friction which will cause another blow out.

RE: Ants Ants Everywhere. Help!!

I am afraind the only 100% solution is to tent your rig and get several of those insect killer bombs that you can buy in any hardware store and set them off in an airtight enclosure. Make ssure that all yur dishes and flatware is out of the rig and make sure all pilot lights and propane is turned off and ther is not other source of ignition..

RE: Help 2008 Fleetwood Bounder 38P Input

Just because you wee happy with your old Southwind from that place does not mean that you will be happy with this particular bounder after you take it out for several camping trips. I suggest you do a very thorough inspection yurself and demand explanation for anything you do not understand or anything that looks strange. Then take it out on a 5 mile test drive. Do not turn any $$ over to the dealer or sign on the bottom line until you are absolutely satisfied with the inspection and the test drive. Fleetwood products tend to be inconsistent from one to the other and the sales staff will try to placate you regardless before you have completed your inspection and test drive.

RE: Rv Wholesalers

I suggest you call Forest River and get the name and address & phone number of ta local independent RV repair place that does authorized warranty work for the factory. Then have them do the work after they get OK from the factory. Not only wholesalers have this reputation but many regular dealers across the whole country. Independent RV repair places value their custmers more. I am afraid you will have to go to samll claims court to recover yur unfair finacial obligations in this case.

RE: Class A Motorhome Toilet Problem

On a 2006 model the toilet should have two levers on the top right hand side of the stool. You have to operate the water inlet lever separate from the other lever which opens and shuts the dump valve. If you operate these levers separately you should get water in your toilet assuming that you have the plumbing lines reconnected. The same applies if your have the foot operated valves. If this does not work, You have a defective valve mechanism within the toilet system. Call out a mobile RV repair service in your area to fix it. It may or may not be under warranty depending on your contract.

RE: What is the best post under general rving you ever read

Seriously Gang, the best all time post on the Open Roads Forum is the one that is titled "First time buyer---" it gives excellent guidance to RV beginners and also to RV'rs that think they know it all. It applies to most people that want to know more practical things about RV'ing. I don't know about you but I have been an RV'r since 1972 and I am still learnig new things today by reading the posts on this forum. I have to admit that I am loosing patience with persons that keep asking the same questions that had been asked and answered over and over without doing a search on this forum. What is so hard about doing a search on any topic?
